The Art of Karen M Smith
My art is an expression of who I am. I let the emotion of the scene flow through me as I translate it to canvas. I try to incorperate mood and emotion in my landscapes as well as capture light and atmosphere, while maintaining a bold and colorful palette. I use many different techniques to create each painting. I try not to limit myself to one style, but I primarily paint impressionist landscapes. I have also painted florals, animals, and sketched portraits.
My artwork is in private collections all across the United States.
I was born in 1975 and grew up in the Metro-Detroit area. I have always been interested in art and encouraged to use my artistic talents.
In elementry school I won the Young Authors Award five years in a row for my stories and illustrations. This experience ignited my self-confidence as an artist. My classmates would remember me by my maiden name, Karen Neal.
I have only recently started painting full time. I am self taught. I feel the importance of my art is based on my natural ability, that in the absence of formal instruction, my art remains raw and unspoiled. I am constantly exploring the possibilities of my painting.
